Brandon Benson enters his first season on the Life University Men’s Basketball Staff, having been hired by Head Coach Kevin Easley in July of 2025. Coach Benson, a Marietta, Georgia native, is embarking on his 10th year in coaching (9 at the collegiate level). He has experience at almost every level of coaching, including both Power 5 and Mid-Major Division I, Division II, NAIA, JUCO and Prep.

Benson comes to Life after a season on the bench at Flagler College, a Division II program in Saint Augustine, Florida. The Saints finished the season with 15 wins and two All-Conference nominees, in senior captain Jax Bouknight and freshman Josiah Shackleford, who additionally earned Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year recognition. Coach Benson worked directly with Flagler’s bigs, including Jaylen Jordon, who averaged 13 points and 7.8 rebounds per game before moving up to Division I Jacksonville University.

Benson joined forces with Flagler following his time as a Head Coach at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida. Benson served as the Head Coach for the Boys Varsity Blue & Gold teams at DME, coaching over 60 games and sending several players to collegiate institutions to further their athletic careers. As an assistant with DME’s National Team, Coach Benson worked with several players who went on to prestigious college basketball programs, such as 5 Star prospect Moustapha Thiam (UCF/Cincinnati), Savo Drezgic (Georgia), Babatunde Duradola (Temple), Jaylen Robinson (Richmond), Matas Buteliauskas (Buffalo) and Heri Bukinga (Drake). 

Benson arrived at DME after working for Head Coach Dee Brown at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois during the 2022-2023 campaign. Benson served as an Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Roosevelt University. Benson joined Roosevelt following his two-year stint from 2020-2022 as a Graduate Assistant for the Northwestern University Men's Basketball program in the Big Ten Conference, where he assisted the coaching staff in day-to-day operations: preparing scouting edits, coordinating film exchange, on-court workouts, and various practice duties. 

Benson made his way to Evanston following a four-year tenure as a student manager at Middle Tennessee State University from 2016-2020. While at MTSU, Benson was a key member of two Conference USA Championship teams under Head Coach Kermit Davis, including an NCAA Tournament victory in 2017, and served as Head Manager under Head Coach Nick McDevitt. 

Throughout his young career, Benson has worked with and been instrumental in the development of several elite wings and big men in both the Big Ten and CUSA, such as the University of North Carolina's Pete Nance, Duke University's Ryan Young, and former CUSA Conference Players of the Year and longtime pros JaCorey Williams and Nick King. 

In 2019, Benson was nominated and selected as one of 12 student managers from across the country to assist in the inaugural NCAA Basketball Academy hosted by the University of Illinois. During the academy, Benson worked with over 200 high school recruits while assisting coaches across all divisions of basketball during drills and games while handling day-to-day tasks throughout the academy. 

A 2022 graduate of Northwestern University and a 2020 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Benson earned his master's degree in Sports Administration at Northwestern in addition to the completion of his bachelor's degree in Leisure and Sport Management at MTSU. an exceptional addition to any coaching staff.

Benson graduated from Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia where his family still resides.
