Exhilarating Finish for LIFE in Day 1 at the CRC

6/1/13, PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - It was an exhilarating finish for Life University on day one of the College Rugby Championships as they took out the remaining teams in Pool E, Florida and Delaware, to kickoff Sunday as the second seed in the tournament. The Running Eagles are set to battle Kutztown at 10:20 Sunday morning in the quarterfinals.

LIFE followed up last night's 33-5 win over Texas with another dominating performance against Florida Saturday afternoon. The Running Eagles entered the half ahead 14-0 with tries from Glen Maricelli and Colton Cariaga. Cariaga contributed two more tries and Mo Guiziani got in one of his own to earn LIFE the win, 35-7.

LIFE's second match of the day against Delaware wasn't nearly as pretty. As one fan stated, the thing about Sevens rugby is that anything can happen. One odd bounce of the ball can cause a major upset, and with only 14 minutes on the clock, there isn't much time to recover from mistakes. Against Delaware, LIFE needed a recovery. They trailed most of the first half 0-7 until Joe Cowley scored a late try, but missed the conversion, to inch the Running Eagles closer by the halftime buzzer, 7-5. The second half started with another try for Delaware off a bad toss from LIFE, giving the Fighting Blue Hens a 12-7 lead.

Great teamwork earned the Running Eagles their first try of the second half, compliments of Joe Cowley along with a good conversion to take the score to 12 apiece. Moments later Cam Dolan scored to put LIFE ahead 17-12. Cowley nailed another conversion from a tough angle that brought the score to 19-12. With one minute on the clock, Cariaga scored one final try for LIFE to end the game 24-12.
