Life U Knocks Off Point In 90-54 Rout

MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University (4-3) knocked off Point University (2-2) 90-54 in a complete rout on Saturday.
 
"This was a great win today against a really good Point team, who has beat some good teams," Head Coach Anthony Maxwell said.  "I think we are playing great team basketball right now. Our energy was good from start to finish. When we play that way, it's going to be hard to beat us. We just have to consistently bring that same effort and focus."
 
Life U was led by sophomore Lucy Stone and Damiya Montgomery with 18 points apiece, both were both season highs. Stone added five rebounds, five assists and two steals to her line, while Montgomery added four rebounds and a steal. Freshman Diamond Atkins contributed 10 points, as well as a rebound, an assist and a steal. The Mid-South Conference leader in rebounds, Kennesha Nichols finished a point shy of another double-double with nine points and 14 rebounds, in addition to two assists, two blocks and a steal.
 
The Running Eagles came out of the gate red hot and never trailed in the game. Life U got things rolling as they opened on a 6-2 run. They would run the lead out to double digits for the first time at 17-17 with 3:56 left in the quarter. The period ended with the Running Eagles leading 30-11.
 
Things didn't get any better for the Skyhawks in the second quarter as Life U sustained a 11-0 run from the start of the quarter to take a 41-11 lead with 2:46 left in the half. However, Point found a little success as they were able to trim the lead to 43-19 going into the half.
 
Point continued to ride the momentum they found at the end of the half as the managed to kept trimming the lead to 45-28 at 6:51. However, that is as close as they would get as the Running Eagles would take control again push the margin back above 20 points. They took a 58-36 lead to the fourth quarter.
 
Life U completely dominated the final 10 minutes of the game. The Running Eagles went on a scoring rampage and continued to run up the lead. With 2:19 left, the margin eclipsed 30 points at 79-49. Their largest lead came at 90-51. They took the win 90-54.
 
Life U is back in action on Nov. 15 as they travel to Cleveland, Tenn. to face off against Lee University.
