PULASKI, Tenn. – In a rematch of the first round of the NAIA National Tournament, No. 9 Life University (2-2) defeated Martin Methodist (0-5) 65-62 on Tuesday night.
"This was a really good win for us tonight, and one we really needed as a team," Head Coach
Keith Adkins said. "Anytime you can go on the road to a SSAC team and get a win, you have to feel fortunate. We have to realize we still aren't where we need to be, but we did take some positive steps in the right direction tonight."
Senior
Undra Mitchem paced the squad with a season-high 23 points, as well as five rebounds. Senior
Jay Johnson posted 10 points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Michael Miller contributed eight points, a rebound and two assists.
In a game that was close from the tipoff, Life U held a slim lead for most of the first half. They got things started with an early 10-4 lead just five minutes into the game. The Redhawks battled back and took the lead at 18-16 with 8:17 left in the period. Both would trade leads back and forth for the remainder of the half. MMC held a 31-27 lead going into the intermission.
The second half was even closer than the first with four ties and five lead changes. Life U retook the lead at 40-39, and held the advantage for over five minutes. The Redhawks proceeded to tie the game and take the lead 49-49. The Running Eagles took the lead to stay at 55-54 with 5:14 left, and held on to take the 65-62 victory.
Life U returns home on Friday, Nov. 17 to face off against Carver College in their home opener as a part of the annual Running Eagle Classic.
