CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Life University (4-3) struggled mightily in a 96-38 exhibition loss to NCAA Division II Lee University (3-0) on Wednesday night.
"We struggled in every phase of the game," Head Coach
Anthony Maxwell said. "Tonight, showed what happens when an aggressive team takes on a group of timid individuals. We'll get back to work and get some things cleaned up."
Scoring came at a premium for Life U in the lost as junior
Sydney Garnigan led the squad with just eight points, as well as a steal. Both sophomores
Damiya Montgomery and
Lucy Stone posted seven points, while Montgomery added two rebounds and two steals and Stone added three assists, two rebounds and a block.
The Running Eagles' only lead of the game was the briefest of such at 2-0 for just 19 seconds to start the first quarter, the Flames took over from there. For most of the opening period, Life U stayed within striking distance. However, they began to lose their grip as Lee took a 20-8 lead to close the quarter out.
Things didn't get better in the second half, as the Running Eagles were only able to add nine points in the remainder of the half. Lee rolled into the half with a 47-17 lead.
In the second half, the Flames continued to have their way. With 4:28 left in the game, Lee went up by their largest margin at 63, and eventually took the victory 96-38.
The Running Eagles will need to shake off the loss quickly as they travel to McKenzie, Tenn. on Saturday, Nov. 18 to take on Bethel.
