MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University (5-3) knocked off Morris College in a 108-65 rout on Saturday.
"This was a great win today," Head Coach
Anthony Maxwell said. "I was really pleased with our overall team effort. We moved the ball well and made the extra pass to a teammate; 29 assists are great on any night. We had really balanced scoring and great defensive intensity."
An eye-popping eight Running Eagles scored double-digits in the win. Sophomore
Tierra Lindsey paced the squad with 16 points, as well as eight rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Damiya Montgomery,
Kennesha Nichols and
Diamond Atkins all logged 12 points apiece. Nichols added eight rebounds, four steals and an assist. Montgomery added five assists, three rebounds and a steal. Atkins added five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Sydney Garnigan,
Lucy Stone,
Tshlene Bentley and
Shikiya Brown all posted 10 points apiece.
Life U came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and only trailed for 18 seconds the entire game. They opened on an 11-3 run, after a game-opening three-pointer from Morris, and never looked back. The Running Eagles pushed their lead to double-digits for the first time at 16-5 with 4:59 left in the first quarter. They held a 27-19 lead going into the final 10 minutes of the half.
The second quarter was all Life U. They pushed the lead out to 20-points at 50-30 with 1:33 left in the half. The Running Eagles took a 52-32 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, Life U continued their dominance. In the third quarter, the Running Eagles ran the lead out to 30 at 77-47 with 1:32 left in the quarter. They held an 82-47 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Life U pushed the lead out to 40 with eight minutes left in the game at 87-47. They broke the 100-point barrier for the first time in program history at 100-63 with 3:00. The Running Eagles eventually took a 108-65.
Life U will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 4 as they welcome Middle Georgia State to the Eagles' Nest.
