Running Eagles Fall To No. 2-Seed Lindsey Wilson 0-4 In MSC Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Life University (4-12) saw their season come to an end with a 0-4 loss to No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson (8-5-3) in the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Friday.

"Just a year ago we were at a place in which we wouldn't even dream of competing with these types of teams," Head Coach Sam Clark said. "Now, we see the short-term progress from when we first played them in the regular season to now shows great improvement. We are a little heartbroken about the result, but we are way more positive about the future of this program.  We return all of our players and keep getting stronger each year."

Life U was outshot 21-2, with the Blue Raiders taking all 11 shots on goal in the match. Freshman Pien van Kampen suffered the loss in the goal with seven saves and four allowed goals.

Lindsey Wilson got their offense going immediately missing two shots high and having one saved by van Kampen inside the first five minutes of the match. They didn't let that slow them down though as they kept the pressure up and eventually scored two quick goals at 11' and 16'. The first came with LWC beating van Kampen on a one-on-one matchup, with the second coming on a pass from the end line to the front of the goal with the attacker finishing past van Kampen. The Running Eagles were held in check the entire half, with the exception of a corner kick from junior Andrea Garcia. The Blue Raiders made several attempts to increase the score late in half with a shot blocked by sophomore Kimberly Santos, one saved by van Kampen, one clanging off the crossbar and two missing high and wide. However, they still took an 0-2 lead into the half.

Lindsey Wilson didn't back off in the second half as they had a shot saved by van Kampen in the first three minutes of the final period. They added a third goal at 38' four yards out from the goal off of a corner kick. Life U had its first goal-scoring chance at 67', but Garcia's shot went high. LWC increased the score to 0-4 at 76' on shot off of a deflection from the Running Eagle defender. Junior Josie Davis tried to get Life U on the board inside the final 13 minutes but her shot sailed high. The Blue Raiders came away with the 4-0 victory and advance to the semifinal round of the tournament.
