Life U Falls To Lindsey Wilson In MSC Semifinals 3-2

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Life University (9-9) fell to Lindsey Wilson (13-2) in the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday.

"As a coach, I was very pleased with today's performance," Head Coach Alex Pama said. "We created the better chances and had to overcome being down three times, which we did twice. Unfortunately, even though deserved, we couldn't comeback a third time. We had plenty opportunities to score and win this game. We told the boys we are proud of them this season. They have made it clear to the very best in the country that they can play, and we expect an even better season next year. Special thanks to our senior Giovanni Freitas, who played fantastic today in his final official game for our program."

The Running Eagles outshot the Blue Raiders 25-23, but Lindsey Wilson had one more shot on goal with 13 compared to 12. Freshman Marek Beno led the squad, scoring both goals with sophomore Bastian Buechler assisting on the first goal. Freshman Daryoush Hosseini suffered the loss in the goal with 10 saves and three goals allowed.

The first half got under way with a flurry of activity, with Leon Stueber getting called for a foul that setup a penalty kick for Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders missed the PK, with the shot careening of the post. Less than a minute later, they took another shot, but this time missed high.

Life U got the offense moving with four shots in a four-minute span. Junior Eddy Diaz missed high, while freshman Thierry Jules had one shot sail high and had one saved by the keeper. Beno also had his first shot saved.

The Blue Raiders got on the board first at 14' with a second penalty kick that found the back of the net as Hosseini guessed wrong on the kick and dove the opposite way.

This didn't slow the Running Eagles down as they continued to press, forcing the LWC keeper to save two shots back-to-back within a minute. Life U finally broke through as Beno headed in his first goal at 17' off a corner kick from Buechler, tying the game at 1-1.

LWC wasted no time answering back and regaining lead just eight minutes later. At 26', Lindsey Wilson sank a shot off a cross in the box that was redirected to take a 2-1 lead.

The Running Eagles continued to battle back, and created several chances to tie the game up. The equalizer came at 39' as Beno scored on cross that was deflected and hit off of the far post. The match was all square at 2-2 going into the half.

The second half saw Life U start to dominate on offense. They created several chances to score but could not capitalize on them. In the first five minutes of the half, Life U had three corner kicks, with Beno taking two shots that were either blocked by a defender or saved by the keeper. Sophomore Wessley Soronellas had chances with two shots, one that missed high and one that was blocked by an LWC defender.

Midway through the half, the Blue Raiders began to push the pressure back on Life U, taking several shots that were either saved or missed. However, they finally broke through and retook the lead 3-2 at 74' when the Lindsey Wilson attacker scored off of his own rebound from a keeper save.

The Running Eagles attempted to rebound in the final 15 minutes, but could not get their shots to fall. Jules had a shot saved, while Beno missed two shots wide and Diaz had his shot blocked by a defender.

Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson advanced to the Championship final with a 3-2 victory over Life U.
