No. 25 Running Eagles Lose Heartbreaker To Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 25 Life University (10-3) dropped an 87-85 heartbreaker to Stillman College (11-1) on Saturday afternoon.

"We did a lot of good things today, but we also made too many mistakes to win on the road against a really good team," Head Coach Keith Adkins said. "In the end, we just lost to a team that is as good as anyone on our schedule. We don't like losses, but we will be better because of this game."

The Running Eagles had three players finish with double digits points on the day. Junior Deven Dorsett paced the squad with 17 points as well as seven rebounds and an assist. Senior Ivan Benkovic posted 16 points with five rebounds and two assists. Sophomore Connor Gamble contributed 12 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Life U stumbled out of the gate with Stillman opening on an 8-3 run. They recovered quickly and tied the game at 11. Over a four-minute span, there were five lead changes and five ties. The Running Eagles came out on top with a 25-22 advantage, and proceed to run the lead out to 36-26. They closed out the half with a 41-37 lead.

Stillman came out of the half on fire, as they tied the game within the first 30 seconds of the final period, and retook the lead at 49-48 four minutes in. Life U managed to retake the lead briefly at 72-71, but lose on the next possession for good on the next possession. Stillman eventually took the win 87-82.

The Running Eagles will take a break for Christmas, but will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 29 as they travel to Dalton, Ga. to face off against Carver in the Dalton State Classic.
