Running Eagles Close Out Faulkner Invitational With Sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Life University volleyball (3-1) finished the Faulkner Invitational with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-23, 25-20) over Freed-Hardeman on Saturday.

Head coach Steve Wilcosky was pleased with the performance of his squad on the opening weekend of the season.

"I thought it was a good opening weekend for our team," Wilcosky said. "We saw a lot of bright spots, had girls trying really hard to try and play within our system and do the little things right. We did a nice job of keeping our composure. We had the best energy I've seen in my time here. Everyone was committed to bringing their best and that's all we asked them to do. We are only going to get better and better. As we continue to grow and gel as team, we are going to be fun to watch"

Once agains, junior Liz Mann led the squad with 14 kills and also added eight digs and three service aces. Junior Chelsea Hill contributed 12 kills, four digs, two aces and a block.

"Liz Mann found her groove, especially on day two, her double-double against Tennessee Wesleyan was really impressive.," Wilcosky stated. "We saw some great things from Deandra King. Gaby Ferran is a world class libero and does a lot of things that don't show up in the stats."

The match began close with both teams matching each other point for point with six ties in the first six points. However, the Running Eagles took control with a 5-0 run and never looked back, taking the set 25-14.

The second set was much more closely contested. Even though Life U opened on a 7-3 run, FHU battled back to come within striking distance at 11-7. The Lions managed to keep the score close, but could not overcome their deficit as the Running Eagles claimed the set 25-23.

After the break, the Running Eagles took command 10-6 lead early. The squad never looked back as they rolled to a 25-20 decision and a 3-0 weekend.

Life U is back in action as they open the home schedule with the Running Eagles Classic on Aug. 25-26.

"We are excited to play at home next weekend in front of our fans," Wilcosky said. "It should be a great showing."
