WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Life University volleyball (10-2) fell to Kansas Wesleyan 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 21-25, 17-25). This loss snapped a 10-game win streak for the Running Eagles. Junior
Liz Mann was named the tournament MVP and named to the All-Tournament team as well as junior Gaby Ferrán.
As has been the case all season, Mann paced the squad with 15 kills, as well as eight digs and an ace. Junior
Zykeria Allen posted nine kills, with three digs and two blocks. Junior
Miriam Goodfriend added 30 assists, four digs and two blocks.
The opening set was very tightly contested with neither team able to gain an advantage early. Life U was able to grab a lead after a 5-0 run at 8-3. KWU was able to tie it up at 10-10 and then proceed to go on a 6-3 run to take a 17-13 lead. The Running Eagles battled back to take the lead at 22-21, and to the set 25-23.
They used that momentum to start the second frame on a 4-0 run. However, Kansas Wesleyan found a 6-0 run of their own to tie it at 6-6. After a few more runs, they were able to take control of the set, and eventually took the set 25-15.
The third set was tight for almost of the entire frame. Neither could gain a substantial lead. A late run by KWU delivered the set to them 25-21.
The fourth and final set began much the same way as the previous frame, with both teams trading points early. A 7-1 run by KWU put them in control 19-14, and they eventually took the set and match with a 25-17 decision.
The Running Eagles return home for action on Thursday, Sept. 7 as they welcome Middle Georgia State and Brenau for a tri-match.
