Women's Volleyball Earns MSC Victory over Shawnee State

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio ---- The Life University women's volleyball team defeated Shawnee State University 3-1 on the road Friday night in Mid-South Conference play. 
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 8-16 (2-4) on the year, while Shawnee State fell to 10-11 (1-6).
• Senior Liz Mann tied a career-high for kills in the match with 27.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
• Mann led the way for the Running Eagles offensively with her performance as she finished with a .362 hitting percentage with two digs and two service aces.
Carla Narvaez and Chelsea Hill also finished in double digits with 13 kills each. Narvaez tallied a match-high .458 hitting percentage on just two errors. Hill picked up a double-double with 14 digs as well.
• Marin Black added 26 digs defensively to lead the team, as Mary Alvis also finished with 15.  
• Taylor Parrish finished the match with 30 assists as Amber Harris added 20 for Life U.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Shawnee State jumped out to an early 8-2 run to begin the first set and extended the lead to a 13-5 margin.
• Life U responded with a 12-1 run to take a 17-14 lead with the kill from Narvaez. After overcoming the early deficit, the Running Eagles never trailed to take the first set 25-22.
• Life U led 10-6 early after a kill from Mann in set two. Shawnee State responded to tie the match at 13, however the Running Eagles extended their lead to three, 18-15, after a kill from Narvaez. 
• Shawnee State tied the match at 23 after both teams exchanged points back and forth, as the Bears took the second set by a score of 25-23. 
• Life U led 8-3 early in set three and led 17-13 after a kill from Narvaez. The Running Eagles maintained the lead in the set as Mann recorded the final kill to put the Running Eagles ahead two games to one after the 25-21 score line. 
• Neither team held much of an advantage in the third set, however a kill from Dorland late in the set gave Life U an 18-15 advantage. The Running Eagles did not trail the remainder of the game as Narvaez tallied three consecutive kills to give Life U the 25-22 win in set three for a 3-1 final score. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Shawnee State in kills 63-45. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .222 as Shawnee State finished with a .157.
• Life U committed 28 errors to the 21 from Shawnee State.
• Shawnee State held a slight 9-8 advantage in blocks over Life U, however the Running Eagles posted an 80-62 advantage in digs. 
 
UP NEXT 
• The women's volleyball team will return to action on Saturday, October 6 as they continue Mid-South play and travel to Pikeville, Ky. to face the University of Pikeville at 2 PM.
