CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. ---- For the second time in as many years, the Life University men's soccer team upset the No. 4 seeded University of the Cumberlands 2-1 in double overtime of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Friday night.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 8-10-1 on the year, while Cumberlands finished the year 7-5-3.
•
Thierry Jules proved to be the hero of the night for the Running Eagles with both goals during the match. The upset last season in the quarterfinals also occurred over the Patriots.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Jules led the way offensively for the Running Eagles with both goals on eight shots with three on frame. Jules has now scored eight goals in the last four matches.
•
Wessley Soronellas and
Jacob Bivens each added three shots during the match.
•
Luka Zakarija earned the win in goal with four saves for the Running Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team had many chances early in the match, however Jules gave Life U a 1-0 lead in the 30
thminute as Bivens played the through ball that was curled inside the far-right post.
• Life U led 1-0 at the end of the first half and outshot the Patriots 10-5.
• Seven minutes into the second half, Van Der Made scored off the rebound from 20 yards out for the Cumberlands goal to tie the match at 1-1.
• Both teams tallied eight shots in the second half, as the match headed to extra time tied 1-1.
• Both Life U and Cumberlands had two chances at goal in the first period of overtime, however after the first ten minutes the match remained 1-1.
• One minute into the second overtime, a cross from Chabika found the head of Jules as he scored the golden goal to send the Running Eagles sprinting in celebration with the 2-1 double overtime win over Cumberlands.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U outshot Cumberlands 21-15 during the match. The Patriots however held the advantage in shots on frame over the Running Eagles 5-3.
• Cumberlands led 6-4 in corner kicks over Life U.
• Life U outshot Cumberlands 10-5 in the second half.
