MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team fell at home to the University of the Virgin Islands 86-81 in the final game of the 2018 LU Classic Saturday night.
NOTES
• Life U fell to 6-3 on the year, while UVI improved to 5-4.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Jay Jay Simpson picked up a team-high 26 points as he shot 11-for-19 from the field with six assists and two steals.
•
Evan Milligan also finished in double figures with 18 points. He snagged a team-high eight boards with two assists, two steals and a block.
•
Deven Dorsett was the final Running Eagle to finish in double digits with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• UVI held an early lead over Life U, and led by six, 13-7 after a free-throw from Jackson with 13:27 on the clock.
• Life U kept the game within five, however a layup in the paint from Jackson extended the UVI lead to eight, 24-16, with seven minutes in the first half.
• A pair of free-throws from Ferguson at the four minute mark brought Life U to within one, 24-23, however a 13-2 run from UVI gave the visiting team its first double digit lead of the half by 12, 37-25.
• UVI finished the half ahead by 13, 44-31.
• UVI led by double digits the first 15 minutes of the second half, but a deep three from Scott brought the game to within seven, 72-65 with 5:40 on the clock.
• UVI shot 8-for-10 from the charity stripe in the final minute as Life U was unable to overcome the early deficit and fell 86-81.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 28-for-68 from the field, 41.2%, while UVI shot 32-for-56, 57.1%. The Running Eagles finished 11-for-38, 28.9% from beyond the arc, as UVI went 6-for-15, 40%.
• Life U held the advantage in the turnover margin over UVI 15-10 and converted 10 points off of the turnovers.
• Life U shot 14-for-17, 82.4%, from the free-throw line as UVI finished 16-for-21, 76.2%.
• UVI held a 44-34 advantage in points in the paint over Life U.
