MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team fell late in the second half at home to Dalton State 83-78 Wednesday afternoon.
NOTES
• Life U fell to 10-5 on the year, while Dalton State improved to 6-5.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Evan Milligan led all scorers with 24 points in the game. He added seven rebounds and two assists with a block as he finished 10-for-13 from the floor.
•
Deven Dorsett added 23 with six rebounds and two steals. He was also 9-for-14 from the floor.
•
Mike White was the final Running Eagle to finish in double figures with 10 points. He finished 4-for-8 from the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U led 13-8 early in the first half after a three from Gamble.
• Both teams traded leads back and forth, however Dalton State went on a short 5-0 run to lead 28-24 with six minutes remaining in the half.
• With two seconds on the clock, Milligan connected from deep to give the Running Eagles a one-point lead, 40-39, at the half.
• Three minutes into the second half, Milligan again scored in the paint to put Life U ahead by six, 47-41.
• Life U held the advantage throughout the second half, as the Running Eagles led by a game-high 12, 71-59, after a jumper from Houston with 7:28 on the clock.
• Dalton State cut the lead to eight, 73-65, before a 10-0 run put the Roadrunners ahead 75-73 with 1:55 on the clock.
• Life U tied the game at 78 with 55 seconds remaining in the game, however Dalton State immediately responded to take a two-point lead. Back-to-back scoreless possessions that resulted in turnovers proved to be costly for Life U in the final 30 seconds as Dalton State held on to earn the 83-78 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 31-for-58 from the field, 53.4%, while Dalton State shot 29-for-47, 61.7%. The Running Eagles finished 9-for-30, 30% from beyond the arc, as the Roadrunners went 4-for-14, 28.6%.
• Life U held the advantage in assists over Dalton State 17-13 as the Roadrunners outscored the Running Eagles 46-42 in points in the paint.
• Life U shot 7-for-11, 63.6%, from the free-throw line as Dalton State finished 21-for-26, 80.8%.
