Running Eagles Fall To No. 9 Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Life University (9-13, 1-7 MSC) fell 79-68 to No. 9 Lindsey Wilson (19-4, 6-2) on Monday.

"I know this is starting to sound cliche, but I really think we are getting better," Head Coach Anthony Maxwell. "We had the ninth-ranked team in the country on their home court, and it was a two-possession game with two minutes to go. Kayla Styles showed why she's the reigning Mid-South Player of the Year and First Team All-American. I'm really proud of our effort and pleased with how we played, considering we are playing without two key starters."

Three Running Eagles finished in double digits on the night. Senior Kennesha Nichols paced the squad with 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and an assist. Both sophomores Tierra Lindsey and Shikiya Brown put up 10 points, with Lindsey adding seven rebounds, an assist and a steal while Brown added two rebounds and three steals.

The opening half was a close affair, with neither team able to gain more than a two-possession lead. The Blue Raiders managed to gain the lead early and held it for the majority of the first quarter and went up by their largest lead of the half at 15-7. However, Life U battled back and managed to tie the game 17-17 headed into the second quarter. The final 10 minutes of the half featured four lead changes and two ties. The Running Eagles used the momentum in the first quarter to go up 24-19 in the second, but LWC fought back and retook the lead 27-16 with just under four minutes left in the half. They held the lead and took a 33-31 advantage into the break.

The second half was all Blue Raiders. They went by double digits for the first time at 46-35, and pushed out to their largest lead of the half at 53-37 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. Lindsey Wilson took a 58-49 lead into the final period. In the fourth quarter, the Running Eagles managed to trim the lead to five points at 61-56, but could not get any closer. LWC eventually took a 79-68 victory.

Life U continues its three-game road trip on Thursday, Feb. 8 as they travel to Campbellsville, Ky. to face off against No. 3 Campbellsville.
