Women's Volleyball Falls in Opening Matches at Mobile Invitational

MOBILE, Ala. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team fell in five sets in both matches to begin the University of Mobile Invitational. The Running Eagles fell to St. Thomas University-Houston in the first match, and then to William Carey University in the afternoon on Friday. 
 
NOTES
• Life U falls to 5-10 while St. Thomas improves to 9-2 and William Carey moved to 4-6.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Chelsea Hill led the way offensively with 28 kills on the day. She had 18 against William Carey.
Liz Mann finished just behind her with 25 kills with 13 in the second match.
• Taylor Parrish picked up a double-double against St. Thomas with 16 assists and 10 digs. She totaled 43 assists on the day. Defensively, Marin black led the way in digs 37 on the day and 23 in the match with William Carey.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• The Running Eagles won set one over St. Thomas 25-20 before falling in the next two sets 25-19 and 25-22. The team rallied in the fourth set to win 25-22 but fell in the fifth set 15-8.
• William Carey won the first set 25-16 as Life U responded to win games two and three 25-22 and 25-20. Sets four and five both went long as the Crusaders took the victory 26-24 and 16-14. The Running Eagles led 24-19 in the fourth set, and a 7-0 run from the Crusaders forced a fifth set. Again, Life U led 14-13, but three straight points from William Carey ended the match for the victory. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• St. Thomas led Life U in kills 56-43, despite the Running Eagles outhitting the Celts with a percentage of .192 to .135.
• Life U committed only 15 errors to the 35 from St. Thomas.
• In match two, William Carey led Life U in kills 62-54, however the Running Eagles committed less errors (28-31). 
 
UP NEXT 
• The women's volleyball team will continue action Saturday, September 8, at the Mobile Invitational. The will play Xavier University of Louisiana at 1 PM and then the University of Mobile at 6 PM.
