MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team pulled off its second upset of the week with a 97-88 victory over No. 6 nationally Ranked Georgetown College Sunday afternoon in the Mid-South Conference battle.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 14-7 (4-1) on the year, while Georgetown fell to 17-3 (3-2).
• The win lifted Life U into sole possession of first place in the Mid-South.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Deven Dorsett led the Running Eagles with 28 points. He added four boards, an assist and two steals as he finished 14-for-19 from the charity stripe.
•
Cam Horton added 18 with four boards, two assists and a steal as he finished 6-for-10 from the floor.
•
Tory Ferguson and
Evan Milligan each added 13 as Ferguson tallied six assists, four boards, four steals and was 4-for-7 from behind the arc.
Demetrius Houston (11) and
Connor Gamble (10) also finished in double figures for the Running Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U jumped out to an early 17-9 lead five minutes into the game after Gamble connected from beyond the arc.
• Life U maintained at least a five-point lead until a deep three from Horton connected at the 9:14 mark to put the Running Eagles a 12-point lead, 35-23. Life U shot a perfect 7-for-7 from three to start the game.
• A layup in the paint from Horton gave Life U a 19-point lead with under a minute on the clock, as the Running Eagles went into the locker room ahead 55-41.
• Five minutes into the second half, Life U maintained its double digit lead with a jumper from Dorsett to lead 63-46.
• Georgetown responded with a 9-1 run to cut the lead to nine, 64-55, with 13:54 on the clock.
• Life U continued to shoot well from the field and from the free-throw line as a pair of free-throws from Dorsett with 6:46 on the clock put the Running Eagles ahead 83-71.
• Georgetown cut the lead to five, 86-81, after a quick 5-0 run with 2:59 remaining in the game. A three from Cowherd brought the Tigers to within seven, 93-86, however Life U finished the game 7-for-10 from the charity stripe to seal the 97-88 upset over Georgetown.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 28-for-55 from the field, 50.9%, while Georgetown shot 33-for-66, 50%. The Running Eagles finished 13-for-28, 46.4% from beyond the arc, as the Tigers went 7-for-24, 29.2%.
• Life U held the advantage in turnover margin over Georgetown 13-6 as the Running Eagles scored 19 points off the turnovers.
• Life U shot 28-for-38, 73.7%, from the free-throw line as Georgetown finished 15-for-21, 71.4%.
