MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's soccer team won a pair of road Mid-South Conference contests over the weekend to improve to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The Running Eagles started the road trip with a stop at Thomas More University. The men set the tone early with
Ricardo Lawrence scoring a goal in the opening 19 minutes. Five minutes later
Thierry Jules added a goal as Life U led 2-0 at the break.
16 minutes into the second half
Sergio Sereeira scored with
Luciano Diaz finding the back of the net five minutes later on an assist from
Martin Cortes. Leading 4-0, the Running Eagles added another goal from
Reyes Hernandez on the assist from Sereeira. Life U surrendered two late goals to earn the 5-2 victory.
Fabian Pekruhl totaled four saves in goal and did not allow a goal. The Running Eagles outshot the Saints 25-9 and led in corner kicks 5-2.
The team packed up and traveled to Georgetown for Saturday night's match to end the road trip. The Running Eagles wasted no time as Jules scored his second goal of the trip five minutes into the contest. Just before the half Life U went a man down on a red card, but held a 1-0 advantage.
Playing down a player the second half, Life U responded with three additional goals. 15 minutes after the break
Mattheus Brandao scored and six minutes later assisted L. Diaz for his second goal of the trip as well. Cortes sealed the match with a successful penalty in the 74th minute as the Tigers added a late score. Life U earned the 4-1 victory to conclude the MSC trip.
Pekruhl recorded five saves in goal to secure the win as the defense once again prevailed.
The men's soccer team will return to action on Saturday, October 19, when they continue Mid-South Conference play and host Campbellsville University on Lupo Family Field at 8 PM.
