MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The Life University women's volleyball came from behind to defeat Faulkner University 3-2 in five sets on the road Tuesday night.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 16-7 on the year, as Faulkner fell to 9-11.
•
Zykeria Allen recorded a new career-high 28 kills to lead both teams offensively.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Allen finished with a hitting percentage of .368 in the match with a block assist and two digs.
•
Lena Pucnik (12) and
Mary Zimmerman (11) also finished in double digits offensively in kills.
•
Marin Black led the team with 25 digs as Pucnik (16),
Alia Dorland (12) and
Michele O'Haver (12) also finished in double figures.
Taylor Parrish finished on a double-double with 40 assists and 17 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Faulkner led 4-3 early in set one, however Life U responded with a 7-1 run to lead 10-5. After a short 3-0 response from Faulkner, the Running Eagles went on a 14-2 run to lead 24-10. Life U finished the set ahead 25-12.
• Faulkner dominated early in set two with a 14-3 lead to start. Trailing by 10, 16-6, Life U responded with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to one with the kill from Zimmerman. Faulkner ended the set however on a 5-1 run to win 25-18.
• Faulkner also led 7-3 early in set three before a short 4-1 run was finished with a kill from Allen to cut the deficit to one, 8-7. Faulkner finished the set on a 7-1 run to win 25-19.
• The fourth set went back and forth, but a late 7-1 run put Life U ahead 21-17. Faulkner battled back from set point down 24-22 to tie the set. Kills from Pucnik and Zimmerman sealed the Running Eagle win 26-24 to force a fifth set.
• The fifth set was tied at four early, however Life U completed a 4-1 run to go into the switch ahead 8-5 with the kill from Allen. Faulkner cut the lead to one, 9-8, before a 5-2 Life U run put the Running Eagles at match point 14-10. Faulkner picked up two more to narrow the gap, but a service error ended the match in favor of Life U 15-12.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U edged Faulkner in kills 57-49. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .123 as Faulkner finished with a .097.
• Life U led Faulkner in aces 6-2, however the Eagles held the advantage in blocks 9-8.
• Life U also finished ahead of Faulkner in digs 99-96 and assists 54-44.

• The women's volleyball team will return to action on Saturday, October 19, when they return to Mid-South Conference action and host Campbellsville University at 2 PM in the Upper Gym.
