Women's Soccer Stumbles at Shawnee State

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio ---- The Life University women's soccer team fell 2-1 Wednesday night on the road to Shawnee State University in Mid-South Conference action.  
 
NOTES
• Life U dropped to 1-14 (1-6) on the year, as Shawnee improved to 6-10 (2-5).
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
Mathilde Sletner scored the lone goal for the Running Eagles on a free-kick. She finished with eight shots and four on frame.
Alexandra Collighan also tallied eight shots with four on goal as well. Both Paula Dieckmann and Alice Walford finished with three shots as Julia Vila Punset finished with four saves in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Shawnee came out of the gate at the start of the match with two shots on frame in the first ten minutes, but Vila Punset recorded the save.
• Life U responded with three shots of its own on frame, however Bolender earned three of her 12 saves on the night to preserve the game at zero.
• Shawnee took a 1-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining in the first half.
• Life U continued the offensive pressure and finally broke through on a free-kick just outside the box as Sletner tied the match at one heading into the half.
• Both teams had chances in the second half, however Shawnee was able to capitalize in the 74th minute to take the 2-1 lead.
• Life U totaled two additional shots on frame with one ringing off the post in the final ten minutes. The Running Eagles were unable to find the equalizer as Shawnee earned the 2-1 decision.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U outshot Shawnee 28-11 during the match and held a 13-6 advantage in shots on frame.
• The Shawnee keeper totaled 12 saves in goal to the four from Vila Punset.
• Life U also held a 12-4 advantage in shots during the second half and a 5-1 lead in corner kicks over Shawnee.
 
UP NEXT 
• The women's soccer team will wrap up the 2019 regular season on Friday, November 1, as they travel to Pikeville, Kentucky to face the University of Pikeville at 1 PM. The game will also serve as the play-in game for the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
