MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort over the weekend to defeat Southern University at New Orleans 88-64.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 4-0 on the year as the Running Eagles forced the Knights to commit 24 turnovers with 12 steals and 30 points off the turnovers.
• The 4-0 start marks the best in program history.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Sydni Tears led the Running Eagles offensively on a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. She added two assists and a steal.
•
Tierra Lindsey also finished in double figures with 19 points on eight boards, two assists and a steal.
•
Kiana Glenn (12) and
Shikiya Brown (10) also finished in double figures as
Tierra Tullis finished with a game-high nine assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• SUNO led 12-11 late in the first quarter as a three connected for the Knights with 3:01 on the clock. Life U responded with a 12-5 run to finish the quarter ahead 23-17. Life U would not trail again the remainder of the game.
• Four minutes into the second quarter, Brown picked a steal and finished the layup to put Life U ahead 35-22. A pair of free-throws from Tears with 2:04 in the quarter were the last points of the half for the Running Eagles as they led 47-34 at the break.
• Life U maintained a double-digit lead throughout the third quarter as Glenn converted the basket and free-throw to put the Running Eagles up 20, 69-49, with just over a minute in the quarter.
• SUNO cut the lead to 14, 73-59, after back-to-back baskets with just under six minutes remaining in the game. However, Life U ended the game on a 15-5 run with Glenn tallying the final basket with 42 seconds on the clock.
• Life U finished ahead 88-64 to move to 4-0 on the year.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 32-for-78 from the field, 41%, while SUNO shot 24-for-63, 38.1%.
• Life U shot 16-for-23, 69.6%, from the free-throw line as SUNO finished 12-for-26, 46.2%.
• Life U scored 44 points in the paint and finished 8-for-19 (42.1%) from beyond the arc. Life U also scored 32 points off the bench and 21 second chance points.
