PIKEVILLE, Ky. ---- The (RV) Life University men's soccer team won its first Mid-South Conference Regular Season championship after a 2-1 victory over Pikeville on Friday. The Running Eagles finish the regular season 11-3 and a perfect 8-0 in MSC play to claim the title.
NOTES
• This marks the first MSC championship in program history
• The Running Eagles came from behind once again scoring two goals late to clinch the championship.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Thierry Jules scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute for Life U.
•
Reyes Hernandez tallied the equalizer in the 70th minute.
•
Fabian Pekruhl and
Luka Zakarija totaled three saves in goal as Mattheus Brandau totaled four shots in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Pikeville tallied the first shot on frame in the match nearly halfway through the first half.
• Pikeville recorded the only shot on frame in the first half, however Life U led in total shots 7-3. The score remained tied 0-0 at the break.
• Six minutes into the second half, Pikeville took a 1-0 lead off a free-kick that snuck in under the top of the crossbar.
• Pikeville had two additional efforts on frame, however Zakarija was able to make the stop in the 55th and 66th minute.
• Hernandez broke through for Life U in the 70th minute to tie the match at one.
• Less than two minutes later Jules provided the game-winner to put the Running Eagles ahead 2-1 with 18 minutes on the clock.
• Life U did not allow a shot in the final 20 minutes of the match to secure the 2-1 road victory, and the program's first MSC Regular Season Title.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U outshot Pikeville 18-8 during the match, however both teams finished with four shots on frame.
• Life U held a 3-1 lead in corner kicks throughout the match.
• Life U totaled three saves in goal as Pikeville finished with two.
