PIKEVILLE, Ky. ---- The Life University women's soccer team routed Pikeville 9-0 Friday afternoon in Mid-South Conference action to secure a spot in the MSC Tournament.
NOTES
• Life U finishes the regular season to 2-14 (2-6). The nine goals mark a season-high for the program with three players scoring multiple goals.
• The regular season finale for both teams served as a play-in game for the conference tournament. The Running Eagles earned a spot in the tournament that will begin next week.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Valerie Masciarelli led the way for the Running Eagles with two goals and two assists.
•
Sarah Slingluff totaled seven shots in the match with a pair of goals as well.
•
Alexandra Collighan was 3-for-3 in shots on frame and also tallied two goals.
•
Daniela Cianchini and
Zoe Hagan added a score each during the match as
Julia Vila Punset recorded two saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Two minutes into the match, an own-goal from Pikeville gave the Running Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
• Just before the half, Hagan scored in the 40
th minute on an assist from Dieckmann as Slingluff found the back of the net three minutes later with the assist from Walford.
• Life U led 3-0 at the break.
• Slingluff tallied her second goal of the day seven minutes into the second half. Masciarelli earned both of her goals in the 68
th and 75
th minutes.
• In the final eight minutes of the match, Collighan found the back of the net twice and Cianchini scored with Masciarelli earning the assist on two of the goals.
• The offensive showcase ended in a 9-0 victory for the Running Eagles, which marked the second-largest margin of victory in program history.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U outshot Pikeville 25-6 during the match and held an 18-2 advantage in shots on frame.
• The Pikeville keepers totaled nine saves in goal to the two from Vila Punset.
• Life U also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks over Pikeville and outshot the Bears 13-3 in the first half.
