DAHLONEGA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's basketball team finished the North Georgia Classic over the weekend at 1-1.
The Running Eagles started the classic against host and No. 15 nationally ranked NCAA DII North Georgia. Despite a strong first half, the Running Eagles were down by eight at the break, 38-30. North Georgia went on a massive run in the third quarter, as Life U was outscored 23-9. Life U finished with a 23-point fourth quarter, however were unable to overcome the deficit.
Kiana Glenn finished with a team-high 14 points as
Maeisha Teasley finished with 10. Defensively, the team held strong forcing 28 turnovers and picking up 14 steals. The offense never found its rhythm as the team finished 23-for-74 from the field and 4-for-22 from range.
The women's team bounced back on Saturday with a 61-60 win over NCAA DII Clayton State. The Running Eagles held off the comeback in the final moments of the game after leading the entire way. Through the first quarter, Life U led 17-11 and 32-27 at the break. Heading into the fourth, Life U led 46-39. A layup in the paint from
Tierra Lindsey with just under a minute in the game proved to be enough as the defense held out to earn the narrow win. Lindsey led the team offensively with 14 points and seven boards.
Sydni Tears added 12 as Teasley finished with 11. Life U kept up the pressure inside scoring 32 points in the paint to improve to 6-1 with the win.
The women's basketball team will return to action on Saturday, November 30, as they travel to Mount Vernon, Ga. to match up with Brewton-Parker College at 2 PM.
