MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The (RV) Life University men's basketball team fell at home to No. 19 Dalton State College 71-61 Wednesday night in the team's third consecutive loss.
NOTES
• The first half deficit proved to be too large as Life U fell to 9-3 on the year and Dalton State improved to 9-1.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Cam Horton and
Connor Gamble each finished with 13 points to lead the Running Eagles offensively. Horton added seven rebounds as Gamble picked up a pair of assists.
•
Tory Ferguson was the only other Running Eagle to finish in double figures with 12. He added three assists and two steals.
•
Jeremy Joyner added a team-high 12 rebounds with seven points in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams started out slow offensively as Dalton State held a narrow 7-4 lead six minutes into the first half.
• Dalton State led by six two minutes later, however Life U responded with a pair of threes from Ferguson on an 8-0 run to take a 14-12 lead with 9:43 left in the half.
• The two teams traded points back and forth, but a fastbreak layup from Horton put the Running Eagles ahead 17-16 with 7:57 on the clock.
• Dalton State responded with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to lead by double-digits 28-17. The two teams finished the half close, however Dalton State held the 34-24 lead at the break.
• Dalton State came out in the second half with an explosive 12-4 run to lead by 18, 46-28, four minutes into the second half.
• Life U exploded with a 14-4 run in the middle of the half to cut the lead to ten, 54-44, as a three from Ferguson was good.
• With 1:51 in the game, a 12-4 Life U run cut the lead to single digits, 66-59, after a pair of free-throws. Life U was unable to overcome the 10-point deficit at the half as Dalton State held on to win 71-61.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 16-for-51 from the field, 31.4%, while Dalton State shot 24-for-59, 40.7%. The Running Eagles shot 9-for-34, 26.5%, from beyond the arc as Dalton State finished 5-for-16, 31.3%.
• Life U shot 20-for-28, 71.4%, from the free-throw line as Dalton State finished 18-for-22, 81.8%.
• Life U scored 10 points in the paint and 17 points from the bench. Dalton State totaled 30 points in the paint and 28 from the bench.
