PIKEVILLE, Ky. ---- The Life University women's basketball team fell on the road to (RV) University of Pikeville 91-78 Thursday night in the Mid-South Conference Opener for both teams.
NOTES
• Life U fell to 6-3 (0-1) on the year as Pikeville improved to 7-4 (1-0).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Tierra Lindsey led the Running Eagles offensively with 17 points and six rebounds.
•
Jamee Ward added 13 points with a team-high two blocks and a steal.
•
Kiara Glenn also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Maeisha Teasley added eight with a team-high four steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Pikeville started the scoring with a three 1:30 into the first quarter, however Life U responded with eight straight to lead 8-3 with 6:28 on the clock. A three from Tullis Put the Running Eagles ahead by six, 17-11, with 45 seconds remaining in the quarter. Tears scored the final bucket of the quarter with 15 seconds left as Life U took a 19-14 lead into the second quarter.
• A 5-0 run from Pikeville gave the Bears a 22-21 lead 2:34 into the second quarter. Tullis answered with a second chance basket in the paint to regain the one-point lead. Both teams went back and forth with the lead, however the Running Eagles found themselves ahead 38-37 at the half.
• The third quarter continued the back and forth affair as the Running Eagles earned a four-point advantage, 46-42, after a layup from Lindsey. Pikeville responded with a three to take a 47-46 lead with 6:09 on the clock. Life U used a 4-0 run to lead by a game-high seven, 60-53, after a two from Teasley with 2:16 on the clock. Pikeville finished the quarter on a 9-2 run as both teams were tied at 62 heading into the fourth quarter.
• A pair of free-throws from Glenn just over a minute into the final quarter put Life U ahead 66-64. Pikeville would use a dominant 17-2 run to take the lead for the remainder of the game with an 81-68 lead with 4:11 remaining in the game. The Bears outscored the Running Eagles 26-19 in the final ten minutes to earn the 91-78 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 34-for-76 from the field, 44.7%, while Pikeville shot 33-for-80, 41.3%. The Running Eagles shot 2-for-7, 28.6%, from beyond the arc as Pikeville finished 10-for-27, 37%.
• Life U shot 8-for-14, 57.1%, from the free-throw line as Pikeville finished 15-for-20, 75%.
• Life U scored 52 points in the paint and 22 second chance points. Pikeville totaled 57 bench points and 27 second chance points.

• The women's basketball team will return to action on Saturday, December 7, as they continue Mid-South Conference play and travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to face No. 7 nationally ranked Shawnee State University.
