WEST POINT, Ga. ---- The Life University women's lacrosse team started its inaugural season with a 13-7 victory over Point University on the road Tuesday evening.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 1-0 as Point fell to 2-1.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Lauren Rielly led the way for the Running Eagles offensively with four goals and an assist.
•
Kelly Beshaw added three goals on the night as both
Jewelya Nelson and
Brianna Freeman each finished with two.
•
Mallory Bush and
Sandy Le finished the scoring for Life U with one each. In goal,
Kayla Hamlett picked up eight saves as
Julia Thompson recorded five saves without giving up a goal in the final 13 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Seven minutes into the opener, Life U exploded out to an early 6-0 lead as Rielly had a hat-trick in the first five minutes.
• Point responded with a goal with 14:39 on the clock as the two teams traded goals back and forth to finish out the half. Rielly tallied all four of her goals in the first half as the Running Eagles led 8-3 at the break.
• Life U scored just a minute and seven seconds into the second half as Freeman found the back of the net for a 9-3 advantage.
• Point responded with 27 minutes remaining in the game with a goal, however Beshaw extended the Running Eagle lead back to six, 10-4, with the assist from Froese.
• With ten minutes remaining, Life U led 10-5 before goals from Nelson and Bush extended the lead to seven. Point responded with two goals inside three minutes, however Nelson scored for Life U inside two minutes to give the Running Eagles the 13-7 inaugural win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished with 24 total shots as 17 were on frame. Point tallied 33 shots with 20 on frame.
• Life U led Point in saves 13-4 and recorded two less turnovers in the game, 26-24.
• Life U was 33-of-42 on clears during the game as Point finished 27-of-31.
• Life U picked up 32 ground balls compared to the 18 from Point and led in draw controls 12-9 over the Skyhawks.

• The women's lacrosse team will return to action on Monday, February 18, as they travel to Waleska, Ga. to face Reinhardt University at 3 PM.
