MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's volleyball team swept Campbellsville University and Midway University 3-0 to begin play in the Life U Classic and improve to 2-0 in Mid-South Conference play.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 6-1 (2-0).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Livan Moreno led the way for the Running Eagles offensively with 20 kills in the two games combined.
•
Allain Larroche added 46 assists in both games as
Alejandro Gonzalez picked up 14 digs with 15 kills.
•
Luke Allmond finished with 12 kills on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams traded points early in set one against Campbellsville, however a late 4-1 run put the Running Eagles ahead by two, 18-16, as Moreno picked up the block.
• Campbellsville led 24-23 late in set one, however Life U responded with a 3-1 burst to lead 26-25. Again, on set point ahead 28-27, Campbellsville stood just one point away from earning the set win, however Life U responded with a 4-1 run to take the first set 31-29.
• In the middle of set two, Campbellsville led 15-13 before a 5-1 run put Life U ahead 18-16. The Tigers tied the set at 18 two points later, however the Running Eagles responded with a 4-0 run to lead 22-18 after an ace from Larroche.
• Campbellsville battled back with a 4-0 run to tie the set at 22, however Life U finished the set on a 3-0 run that was finished with a kill from Moreno to take the second set 25-22.
• Life U never trailed in the third set as the Running Eagles earned the 3-0 sweep over the Tigers with a 25-20 win in set three.
• Life U led 16-14 halfway through set one against Midway, however the Running Eagles finished the set on a 9-1 run to win 25-15.
• Set two showed a similar result as Life U and Midway were tied at 15, before a 6-2 run put the Running Eagles ahead 21-17. Life U finished the set on a 4-1 run as Allmond and Gonzalez picked up the block for a 25-19 set two victory.
• Life U led every point of the third set as De Leon recorded the final kill for the second sweep of the day over Midway in a 25-19 victory in set three.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Campbellsville in kills 39-38 and held a 37-24 advantage over Midway. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .247 and .320 as Campbellsville finished with a .149 and Midway finished at .108.
• Campbellsville led Life U in digs 39-37, however Life U led Midway in digs 33-22.
• Both Campbellsville and Life U tallied seven blocks as Life U held a slight 7-6 advantage over Midway.
• Life U finished with a 34-30 advantage in assists over Campbellsvile and a 32-23 margin over Midway.

• The men's volleyball team will return to action on Saturday, February 9 as they conclude play in the LU Classic that will be hosted in the Eagles' Nest. The Running Eagles will finish the tournament against Cumberland University at 12 PM.
