BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ---- The Life University men's volleyball team swept Bluefield College in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Friday night to advance to the Semifinals.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 17-3 on the year, as Bluefield finished the season 15-17.
• At the banquet Thursday night,
Allain Larroche and
Livan Moreno were recognized to the First Team All-Conference as
Alejandro Gonzalez and
Diego Perez were named to the Second Team. Gonzalez was also named to the MSC All-Academic Team and
Javier Cornier was recognized Life U's Champion of Character representative.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Gonzalez led the way offensively for the Running Eagles with 14 kills. He finished with a hitting percentage of .423 with five digs, two block assists and two service aces.
• Larroche finished with 33 assists and a pair of service aces. He added six kills and four digs with a solo block.
• Cornier also finished with a pair of service aces and seven digs.
Javier De Leon finished with eight kills as
Luiz De Mello tallied nine kills and eight digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in set one after an ace from Cornier and a kill from Gonzalez.
• Life U continued to hold a large lead, as the team led by ten, 20-10, after a kill from Larroche. The Running Eagles finished the set ahead 25-16.
• Bluefield led 3-2 early in set two, however a 10-2 run from Life U put the Running Eagles ahead 12-5 after kills from De Mello and Larroche.
• Life U finished the second set on a 7-1 run to win 25-13.
• Life U led 6-5 early in set three, before the Running Eagles rattled off seven in a row to lead 13-5 with the kills from De Leon and Cornier. Life U maintained at least a six-point advantage the rest of the set to win 25-17 with back-to-back kills from Gonzalez to end the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Bluefield in kills 49-24. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .500 as Bluefield finished with a .159.
• Bluefield led Life U in blocks 6-3.
• Life U finished with a 28-17 advantage in digs over Bluefield.
• Life U also led Bluefield in aces, 6-2, and assists, 39-10.
