MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team finished day one of the Running Eagles Classic 2-0 with consecutive 3-0 sweeps over Fisk University and Southeastern University Friday night.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 5-2 on the year, while Fisk fell to 0-6 and Southeastern dropped to 4-2.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Zykeria Allen and
Destinee Benton each posted 21 kills in the matches combined to lead the Running Eagles offensively.
•
Marin Black totaled 38 digs defensively as
Alia Dorland picked up 18.
•
Taylor Parrish continued to add more assists with 77 on the day as well.
•
Fayola Louis also added 12 kills in the second game as the Running Eagles hit a season-high .321 against Southeastern.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
• Life U jumped out to a 12-3 lead early in set one after back-to-back kills from Zimmerman and Allen. Life U held a lead as high as 12 (21-9) before finishing the set on a 4-0 run that ended on an ace from Black 25-11.
• Life U led 7-4 early in set two, before a 4-0 run from Fisk gave the Bulldogs an 8-7 lead. The teams went back and forth until a 4-0 put the Bulldogs ahead 14-10. Life U responded with a 4-0 run that was finished on another ace from Black to tie the set. Fisk came to set point ahead 25-24, however Life U took the set 27-25 with a 3-0 run at the end.
• Fisk led 6-4 early in set three, however Life U responded with an 8-1 run to lead 12-7 after the kill from Benton. Fisk battled back to tie the set at 13 and again at 17. Life U finished the match on an 8-0 that concluded on an ace from Dorland to sweep the match 25-17.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE GAME 1
• Life U led Fisk in kills 43-25. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .261 as Fisk finished with a .041.
• Life U led Fisk in digs 65-51.
• Life U also led Fisk in aces 5-2 and blocks 5-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
• Both teams traded the lead early in set one, however Southeastern took an 11-10 lead after a short 3-0 burst. Life U answered back with a 6-0 run that included a pair of Pucnik aces to lead 16-11. Leading 16-13, Life U finished the opening set on a 9-2 run to take down Southeastern 25-15.
• Life U exploded out to a 10-3 lead in the second set after a kill from Allen. Another 7-2 run from the Running Eagles was finished on back-to-back kills from Pucnik to extend the lead to 11 (17-6). Southeastern found some rhythm late in the set, however Zimmerman put away the final kill to give Life U the set win 25-16.
• Set three was tied 4-4 early, but a 5-0 Life U run included four consecutive kills from Benton to give the Running Eagles a 9-4 advantage. A quick 5-1 run extended the lead to seven (14-7) with a kill from Parrish and an ace from Bowen. Leading by two (22-20) late in the set, Life U finished the match on a 3-1 run as Zimmerman recorded the final kill for the 25-21 finish.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Southeastern in kills 49-28. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .321 as Southeastern finished with a .130.
• Life U led Southeastern in digs 56-42.
• Life U also led Southeastern in aces 8-2 and assists 43-27.
UP NEXT
• The women's volleyball team will return to action on National on Saturday, August 31, as they conclude play in the Running Eagles Classic. The team will play against Freed-Hardeman University at 1 PM and Brenau University at 5 PM.
