MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team concluded play in the Running Eagles Classic 4-0 Saturday as the team defeated Freed-Hardeman 3-1 and Brenau 3-0. 
 
NOTES
• Life U improved to 7-2 on the year, while Freed Hardeman fell to 4-1 and Brenau dropped to 0-8.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
• Lena Pucnik picked up a double-double in each game and totaled 23 kills with 30 digs.
• Mary Zimmerman added 13 kills and hit .526 in the Freed-Hardeman match with a solo block and three block assists.
• Marin Black totaled 27 digs in the first match as well with Louis (14) and Dorland (10) also finishing in double figures. 
• Taylor Parrish totaled 43 assists in the first match as Brie Montgomery added 32 in the second with 13 digs. Michele O'Haver (16) and Collin Bowen (16) also finished in double digits for digs in the second match. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
• Freed-Hardeman led 3-2 early in set one, however Life U responded with an 11-2 run after a kill from Allen to lead 13-5. Life U controlled the rest of the set as Pucnik recorded a kill and an ace from Parrish gave the Running Eagles the first set 25-18.
• Life U exploded out to an 8-1 lead in set two, and eventually extended the lead to 20-10. The Running Eagles finished the set on a 5-1 run as Zimmerman recorded the final kill to take the set 25-14.
• The third set went back and forth with neither team holding a lead more than two. Zimmerman tied the match at 19 with a kill before Freed-Hardeman regained the lead 20-19. A short 4-0 run put Life U ahead 23-20 after an ace from Parrish, however the Lions finished the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-23.
• Freed-Hardeman led 8-6 early in set four, but a 6-1 Life U run gave the Running Eagles a 12-9 advantage with back-to-back kills from Allen. Leading 13-11, the Running Eagles went on an 8-1 run to lead 21-12. Life U finished the set ahead 25-13 to take the match after an ace from Dorland.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE GAME 1
• Life U led Freed-Hardeman in kills 49-42. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .199 as Freed-Hardeman finished with a .046.
• Life U led Freed-Hardeman in digs 77-69.
• Life U also led Freed-Hardeman in aces 8-3 and assists 46-40.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
• Life U held a narrow 13-12 lead over Brenau in the first set, before the Running Eagles exploded on a 10-2 run to lead 23-14 after an ace and kill from Neal. Furness recorded the final kill as the Running Eagles took the set 25-18.
• Brenau jumped out to a 4-0 lead, before Life U responded with a 4-0 run of its own to tie the second set. Both teams traded the lead until a 7-2 run gave the Running Eagles the set 25-18.
• Life U led 9-7 early in set three after back-to-back kills from Pucnik. The Running Eagles never trailed the remainder of the match as Mollick picked up a kill and the ace from Montgomery gave Life U the 25-18 match win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE GAME 2
• Life U led Brenau in kills 34-21. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .153 as Brenau finished with a -.038.
• Life U led Brenau in digs 81-69.
• Life U also led Brenau in aces 7-4 and blocks 6-2.
 
UP NEXT
• The women's volleyball team will return to action on Saturday, September 7, as they begin Mid-South Conference play and host Cumberland University at 1 PM in the Upper Gym.
