MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University Women's basketball team defeated the Georgetown College Tigers 75-66 on Thursday night.
This would be the first conference win for the Running Eagles, making them 1-5 in the Mid-South, and 8-8 overall. Georgetown would fall to 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-South.
The Women would come out with a solid level of play. Georgetown's No. 16 scoring offense had trouble early on with an aggressive defense from the Running Eagles. A steal from Shikiya Brown would be the first of many from the women. They would tally up six steals in the first quarter; Maeisha Teasley would acquire three steals alone.Â
The Running Eagles would battle on offense. Sydni Tears and Cheyenne Daphney would rotate between each other in the post, with the addition of Tierra Lindsey. Tears would have 17 points and seven rebounds to close out the second quarter, followed by Daphney with eight points and two rebounds. The efforts in the post would prove favorable, as the Women would gain a nine point lead to close out the first half.Â
Life U would enter the third quarter with a steal from Tears; the Running Eagles would still have a solid lead throughout the quarter. Georgetown would get as close as three points, but the defensive efforts would prove to be what would kept the Tigers from gaining a lead. The women would close out the game the way they started, with a steal, this time from Teasley.
Standout performances from the women would be a collective effort. Sydni Tears finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Cheyenne Daphney and Tierra Tullis would both finish with 10 points a piece. Maeisha Teasley would finish with 11 points and 6 steals, a season high.Â
