MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team earned a pair of victories in the opening day of the Running Eagle Classic to improve to 5-0 on the year. Life U totaled a program-high 28 service aces on the day.
Life U started the day with a 3-1 win over Toccoa Falls College. The Running Eagles won the first set 25-16 and the second set 25-18, but fell 25-23 in the third set. In set four, Life U earned the 25-20 win to take the match.Â
Lena Pucnik led the way offensively hitting .533 on a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. She added a service ace and a block assist.
Mary Zimmerman finished just behind her with nine kills and tallied three solo blocks with two block assists.
Taylor Rubtsov tallied 39 assists with five service aces.
Marin Black led the way defensively with 22 digs and a pair of service aces.
Savannah Keener tallied a program-high seven service aces in the match as well.
As a team, Life U led Toccoa Falls in every statistical category. They held a 10-1 advantage in blocks, 16-8 advantage in service aces, 61-49 edge in digs and a 49-28 edge in kills. The Running Eagles finished with a hitting percentage of .172 as they limited Toccoa Falls to a .025.
In the second match of the day, Life U took down Brewton-Parker in consecutive sets. The Running Eagles defeated the Barons 25-13, 25-15 and 25-20 to finish the night 2-0.
Fayola Louis led Life U offensively in the second match with 11 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. She added four block assists on the night as well.
Caitlyn Neal totaled six service aces and seven kills with a block assist. Black added to her total for the day with 17 digs as
Morgan Furness added five block assists with a solo block and three kills.
Kennedy Neal added 15 assists as Rubtsov finished with 11.
Again, the Running Eagles dominated the stat sheet leading in every category. Life U led Brewton-Parker 43-28 in digs, 37-15 in kills, 12-6 in aces and 7-5 in blocks. Offensively, the Running Eagles finished with a hitting percentage of .272 as they limited the Barons to a -.027.
The women's volleyball team will continue action tomorrow, Saturday, October 24 in the final day of the Running Eagle Classic. They will face Southeastern University at 9 AM and Middle Georgia State University at 1 PM. Only home fans will be allowed to the contests tomorrow.Â
