COCHRAN, Ga. ---- A goal by
Alexandra Collighan in the 82nd minute helped Life U women's soccer keep a zero in their loss column, following the team's 1-1 tie Thursday night at Middle Georgia State.
NOTES
• Thursday night's game stands as the final of the Fall season, the team exiting the season with a 4-0-1 record.
• Much like the team,
Emily Hounsell is still without a loss this season. The freshman collected two saves in the first half of the match.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Collighan recorded the loan goal of the night for the Running Eagles. She tied for a team lead in shots at three with two of them being on goal.
•
Mathilde Sletner provided the assist on the Life U goal, matching Collighan with three shots and a single on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team found many scoring opportunities in the first half. The Knights scored first, an MGA player scoring off a pass while knifing towards the front of the goal with just under 22 minutes to go in the half.
•
Sarah Slingluff came incredibly close to fitting a goal in just inside of seven minutes to go in the half, but the ball ricocheted off the top bar, Life U entering the break down 1-0.
• In the 55th minute Sletner had a chance to tie the score off a well placed
Daniela Cianchini corner kick, but Middle Georgia's keeper held her ground to gather the save.
• With less than 10 minutes in regulation, a Knight yellow card gave Life U a prime opportunity to score which the team took advantage of. Sletner took the penalty kick which a well designed set play saw Collighan scoring off of.
• As the game had been incredibly physical down the stretch, the coaches decided to let the game end with the ending of regulation.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U completely dominated the shot count, owning a 12-3 advantage in shots (5-3 on goal). The offensive and defensive pressure was most prevalent in the second half as the Running Eagles out shot MGA 8-0.
• Both keepers stood strong in goal, Hounsell picking up two saves while the Knights earned four.
• The game was incredibly physical, both teams collecting many fouls and yellow cards. Life U earned more fouls (11-9), while MGA possessed the advantage in yellow cards (3-2).
UP NEXT
