COCHRAN, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team finished the fall campaign with a 3-1 road victory over Middle Georgia to finish the first half of the season 9-1.
Taylor Rubtsov, who competed in her final collegiate match, finished with 41 assists, nine digs, three service aces, two block assists and two kills.
Lena Pucnik tallied a team-high 15 kills with 15 digs as well. She added three service aces and two block assists.
Fayola Louis (12) and
Caitlyn Neal (10) also finished in double figures with kills. Defensively,
Marin Black led the Running Eagles with 31 digs as
Michele O'Haver tallied 15.
Morgan Furness added five kills as well as five block assists.
During the match, Life U used a late 9-1 run to lead 19-11 over Middle Georgia in the first set. A late 6-1 run from the Knights brought the score to 24-22, however an attack error gave the Running Eagles the first set 25-22.Â
Life U led 14-6 early in set two after a kill from Pucnik, however Middle Georgia responded with a 6-1 run to cut the lead to three, 15-12. A kill from Furness put the Running Eagles ahead 17-13, however the Knights answered immediately with an 11-1 run to take a commanding 24-18 lead. Life U scored four unanswered however an error gave Middle Georgia the second set 25-22.Â
Life U dominated the next two sets 25-14 and 25-12 to win the match 3-1. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .156 as they limited Middle Georgia to .014. The Running Eagles dominated the box score leading the Knights in kills (50-29), aces (13-3), blocks (5-4), assists (42-22) and digs (85-70).
The women's volleyball team will return to action in the spring on February 15, when they travel to Martin Methodist College and begin Mid-South Conference play.Â
