Men's Basketball Edged Out by (RV) Pikeville

MARIETTA, GA —  The Men returned to the Eagle's Nest on Saturday to take on the University of Pikeville. The Bears, who are receiving votes, would narrowly come out with a win, 71-79. 

The first half would start out with an 8-0 run for Life U. The Men would lead 16-6 by the 13-minute mark, and maintain the lead throughout the majority of the first half. Pikeville would look to scrape at the Running Eagles' lead; but, Cam Horton and Antwan Maxwell would extend the lead, with shots from the field. 

Around the five-minute mark, Pikeville would tie the score up at 27, before closing out the first half with a score of 37-31. 

The statistical categories would be in close quarters; the Men could score 42.86 percent from the field, and 66.67 percent from the free-throw line, while Pikeville would score 55.57 percent from the field and 60 percent from the line.

Entering the second half, Pikeville would extend their six point lead to nine points. The Running Eagles would struggle to get shots up; they would score only six points in three minutes. However, the Men would fight back to close the score margin. 

At the one-minute mark in the second, the score would be 69-74. Maxwell would close the gap from five points to three with a shot from the field. Pikeville would hold onto, and extend their lead to 8 while defeating the Running Eagles. 

Efforts come from Maxwell, who finished with 22 points and eight rebounds; Horton and Mike White would also finish in double digits, with 13 and 11 respectively. The Running Eagles would shoot 37.5 percent from the field, 21.7 percent from the arc and 78.3 percent from the field throughout the entire game.

UP NEXT

The Running Eagles return to action Saturday, February 22, taking on the Cumberland University Phoenix at 4PM. This is their final home game of the season before conference play.
