Women Return Home and Upset (RV) University of the Cumberlands

Tierra Lindsey would be recognized for surpassing 1,000 career points. The Women would then go on to down the Patriots at home.

MARIETTA, GA. — It was a night of celebration for Running Eagles Women's Basketball.

The Women returned home after a lengthy road trip to take on the University of the Cumberlands Patriots on Thursday night. The Patriots, at the time are receiving votes for the National Poll. However, the women would down the Patriots 73-62.

Prior to the start of the game, Life University would recognize Tierra Lindsey on surpassing 1,000 career points as a Running Eagle.

After photo-ops and celebration, the competition would begin. The first quarter would go back and forth between the two teams. The Women were 0-2 from around the arc and 60 percent from the line, but they would stretch the lead out to six points by the end of the first.

The second quarter would mimic the first, with steals from guards Maeisha Teasley and Tierra Tullis. However, University of the Cumberlands would fight back to cut down the lead that Life U established. Cumberlands relied on free-throws, shooting 83.3 percent from the line, tying the game up at 39 going into the second half.

Third quarter would fall in favor of the Patriots, who would lead 47 to 43 at the four-minute mark. But defensive efforts from Teasley and Tullis, along with Sydni Tears dominating in the post, would put the women back on track. They would trail by three entering the fourth, after only scoring eight points in those ten minutes; but, the women would look turn up the intensity.

University of the Cumberlands led by two, but a steal from Lindsey at the halfway mark would change the tides. Back-to-back steals from Teasley would give the women a lead of five at 3:11. The Women would extend the lead from five to 13 before closing out the game with a good free-throw from Tullis.

The Running Eagles would score 27 points off of turnovers to Cumberlands' 12, while Life U was also a force in the paint, with 48 of their 73 points being scored down low.

Efforts come from Tears, who finished with 22 points and Cheyenne Daphney, who finished with nine points and 11 rebounds. Lindsey and Teasley would both finish with ten points a piece.
