MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The No. 9 Life University women's lacrosse team earned its first Mid-South Conference victory over No. 7 Marian University over the weekend to improve to 6-1 on the year.
Leading the charge for the Running Eagles offensively was
Sandy Le and
Tina Ricci, who each tallied four goals. Le added four ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls as Ricci totaled seven ground balls, four caused turnovers and six draw controls as well as an assist. Defensively,
Reese Cook earned the win in goal with a season-high 14 saves as Life U caused 22 turnovers as a team.
The back-and-forth affair begain with
Brianna Freeman finding the back of the net just over a minute into the contest with Ricci scoring four seconds later to put Life U ahead 2-0. Marian responded with a 3-1 run to tie the game at three after the first 10 minutes.
A pair of goals in 20 seconds from Ricci and
Tori Adcox saw the Running Eagles jump back ahead 5-3. The Knights added a goal with 19:30 on the clock, as another spree of goals in 30 seconds put Life U ahead 7-4. Marian closed the first half on a 3-0 run to tie the game at seven heading into the break.
Marian scored the first goal of the second half to take its first lead of the game, however
Maria Arvizu and Le were able to find the back of the net in response to give Life U the 9-8 lead with 20 minutes on the clock. The two teams traded goals back and forth as Marian found the back of the net with 3:57 to tie the game at 12. Adcox assisted
Skylar Clum to give Life U the lead 24 seconds later, and Ricci sealed the win with the final goal at the three minute mark to give the home team the 14-12 upset win.
The women's lacrosse team will return to action on Tuesday, March 10, as they host William Penn University on Lupo Family Field at 5 PM.
