Women's Wrestling Splits Duals During Tri-Match

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The fifth-ranked Life U women's wrestling team won one and lost one today in Mid-South Conference action, falling short against No. 2 Campbellsville 26-18 before defeating (RV) Brewton-Parker 28-16 in the Eagles' Nest.
The Running Eagles' match against the Tigers saw the team earning all four of their victories via tech fall, while the team put together three tech falls against the Barons.
The first match ended in a tough loss by 8-6 decision for
Faye Cherrier at 101 lbs. after she had controlled the match for the majority of it. After a tech fall loss at 109 lbs.,
Peyton Prussin got the team back on track at 116 lbs. defeating her sixth-ranked foe in a quick, 10-0, tech fall.
Julia Vidallon followed that up with another victory via tech fall to put the team ahead in the team score at 9-7. A forfeit at 130 lbs. followed by two straight losses by pin put the Running Eagles in a 22-9 hole.
Destinee Rivera brought some momentum back to Life U by taking another tech fall victory for the team at 155 lbs, but a loss by decision in the penultimate match put the dual out of reach at 26-14.
Catherine Palmieri ended the dual on a high note though, quickly taking down her opponent for a 10-0 tech fall.
Life U got out to a quick start in its dual against Brewton-Parker. A Cherrier decision followed by tech falls from
Katalina Bartelt at 109 lbs. and Vidallon at 123 lbs. saw the team take a commanding 16-0 lead.
Olivia Mottley followed that up with a decision at 130 lbs. The Baron's won their first match at 136 lbs. by pin, but Rebekah Chavez quickly followed that up with a 10-0 tech fall at the following weight.
Life U dropped the 155 lbs. match by a late pin. The team moved to a 28-11 lead after the Barons forfeited the 170 lbs. match, and in the final match,
Katie Moore was wrestling tough, but an injury cut the match short.

Ashley Sword had this to say regarding the day, "No one likes to lose, especially a Mid-South Conference dual, but tonight we saw what it means to wrestle the top team in the country. We have a lot of adjustments to make moving into next week vs University of the Cumberlands and into the Mid-South Conference Championship tournament." Sword finished, "We are looking forward to getting back to work in the room and getting a few ladies back into the lineup next Friday."
The women's wrestling team stays at home for their next match, facing No. 7 University of the Cumberlands Friday, January 22 in the Eagles' Nest.
