Women's Wrestling Record Three First Place Finishes at Emmanuel Invitational

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. ---- The No. 5 nationally ranked Life University women's wrestling team performed well in a strong field at the Emmanuel Invitational today, standing at the top of the team rankings in a field of nine off the back of having 14 total placers.

The Running Eagles made their presence felt at the event, receiving first place finishes from Katalina Bartelt (109 lbs.), Peyton Prussin (116 lbs.), and Jordan Nelson (170 lbs.) Julia Vidallon earned the team's only second place finish in her 123 pound class, while Kory Phillips (109 lbs.), Riley Dalrymple (130 lbs.), Destinee Rivera (155lbs.), and Catherine Palmieri (191 lbs.) all placed third.

Other Life U rankers included Unity Cordova (4th) and Devyn Gomez (6th) at 101 lbs., Angelina Prado (4th) and Coleby Velasquez (6th) at 136 lbs., Rebekah Chavez (5th) at 143 lbs., and Katie Moore (4th) at 191 lbs.

The Running Eagles recorded a team score of 373 points, outdoing their closest competition by 112 match points, showing where the team is right now physically. 

Head Coach Ashley Sword had this to say about the team's performance at the event, "Today we saw a significantly more focused team then we had Friday. We rose to the level of competition in the gym today." Sword continued about how the team keeps improving, "Each time the ladies step on the mat focused on improving, they do. We are continuing our climb to where we need to be as a team entering the MSC Championships and NAIA Nationals." She finished up saying, "More than anything, we saw the heart of our athletes today as they battled through a lot of individual adversity to come out strong."

The women's wrestling team will be back in action next at home against Lourdes University.
