Women's Soccer Drops Defensive Battle Against (RV) Campbellsville, 1-0

MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University women's soccer team got two great looks at goals in the second half, but were unable to come up with a goal in a home Mid-South Conference game against (RV) Campbellsville, 1-0, on the KSU-Marietta Intramural Field Saturday evening.

Both defenses played great, limiting either team's opportunities to take shots, Life U (3-6-0, 0-4-0 MSC) holding a 5-2 lead in shots over Campbellsville (8-1-0, 4-0-0 MSC) through the scoreless first half. Both of the Tigers' shots in the first half were on frame, but Emily Hounsell came up with the stop on both. The second half set up to be played similarly, but Campbellsville started to possess the ball more, putting more pressure on the Life U defense, leading shots in the second half 12-5. Thorra Hreggvidsdottir got the team's best look at an open net in the 68th minute, but a misplaced ball careened off the post. With less then 10 minutes in regulation, the Tigers posted the first, and only score of the contest, Life U getting off two more shots before taking the 1-0 loss.

Hounsell played well for the Running Eagles in goal, collecting seven saves and only allowing a single goal to a team that had averaged more than five goals a game this season.

Neither team played particularly strongly on the attack, Campbellsville taking a couple more shots at 14 to Life U's 11 during the game with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal, while the Running Eagles took a 5-2 lead in corner kicks. Life U also led in saves with seven to the Tigers' four. The Running Eagles were handed more fouls at 13-8, but Campbellsville was the only team to be carded.

The women's soccer team goes back on the road for its next two Mid-South Conference matches, opening up with a contest at Bethel University on Thursday, October 7th at 5:30 PM.
