CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. --- Danny DeLorijn recorded his fourth multi-goal game of the season, this time with a career best hat trick, leading the men's soccer team to a 5-0 beating of the Thomas More Saints on the road in Mid-South Conference play Wednesday night.
Life University (6-6-1, 4-4-1 MSC) recorded a quick goal from DeLorijn in the first 10 minutes of the contest and never looked back, recording a easy victory over Thomas More (4-8-2, 2-7-0 MSC) despite taking a limited number of shots. The lead extended to 2-0 past the midway point of the first half, DeLorijn scoring his second goal this time via a penalty kick. The Running Eagles were efficient with the ball in the second half, only taking three shots but scoring on each of them. The third goal of the game came off a
Matteo Esposito strike, Stan Vandierendonk passing the ball to him for the score. The hat trick was completed by DeLorijn in the 64th minute off another PK. The game's final score came eight minutes later,
Matheus Brandao taking advantage of a corner kick to push the score to its final, 5-0.
Besides DeLorijn playing lights out with a hat trick and all five of his shots being on goal, Esposito had a solid game with a goal scored and an assist. Defensively,
Fabian Pekruhl had one of his better games of the season, consistently stopping the Thomas More attack, earning a total of eight saves.
Thomas More held an edge in both offensive categories with 17 shots to Life U's 11, while also holding a 8-7 edge in corner kicks. The Running Eagles had a sizable advantage in saves, collecting eight to only three for the Saints. When it came to the refs, Thomas More found itself on the wrong side of them more often than not, the teams tying with 14 fouls each, but the Saints being awarded five yellow cards during the game.
