Women's Soccer Sets New Win Streak Record with 3-2 OT Victory Over Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. --- Jeanne Brigand put together a career day with a pair of goals off penalty kicks as the Life University women's soccer team pulled out an overtime thriller on the road at Thomas More, 3-2, in Mid-South Conference action Wednesday evening.

Life University (8-6, 5-4 MSC) finds itself in the midst of a program-best five game winning streak following the team's comeback victory over Thomas More (8-7, 4-5 MSC). In what was a very evenly contested first half, the Saints posted the first score of the game in the 26th minute following a blitz of shots, taking a 1-0 lead into the break. Life U came charging back, Brigand providing a score off a penalty kick in the first three minutes of the second half to tie the game. Brigand's second score came in similar fashion to her first, scoring in the 63rd minute off another penalty kick to give the Running Eagles the lead. Getting a penalty kick chance of their own as time was drawing to a close, Thomas More scored off a PK with just over a minute to go to send the game to overtime. Entering golden goal time, Alexandra Collighan provided the game winner just 44 second into extra time off a pass from Thora Hreggvidsdottir.

Brigand had the best game of her young career, taking advantage of her penalty kick opportunities for a pair of goals off four kicks on goal. Collighan came through in the clutch, scoring the game winner in her second-straight game.

Unsurprisingly for a game that went to extra time, all of the statistics between the Running Eagles and Saints were relatively close. Offensively, Life U took more shots at 14-11, while the teams tied at four corner kicks each. Thomas More had  six saves, one more than what Life U collected. Neither team earned a card, but Life U found themselves on the wrong side of the whistle more often than not, leading fouls 21-13.

The team stays on the road for its next game, facing Georgetown College this Saturday at 7:30 PM.
