BRUNSWICK, Ga. --- Despite a late game charge from the Life University women's basketball team, they were unable to pull off the road victory falling at College of Coastal Georgia, 68-60, Wednesday night.
Life U (2-3) found themselves in a 20-point hole to Coastal Georgia (2-3) on the road at the half after connecting on only 25.8% of their shots as compared to 35.1% from the Mariners. Coming out of the break down 44-24, the Running Eagles outscored Coastal Georgia 36-24 the rest of the way to get back into the game, including a lopsided 23-10 third quarter.
Morgan Collins provided a spark in the dominant third quarter, scoring eight of her 11 points in the period. With 6:10 left in the contest, a
Eva Caroline Singleton layup cut the Mariner lead to 58-53, but the Running Eagles were never able to get the game closer, falling 68-60.
Three players put up double-digit scoring efforts for the Running Eagles, Singleton leading the way with 15 points off 5-for-9 shooting form the floor to go with two boards.
Amara Edeh followed, shooting a strong .500 with 14 points, seven rebounds, and a steal. Collins was the final player to hit the 10+ point mark, with 11 points and three rebounds.
The Running Eagles outperformed the Mariners in second chance points (15-7), points in the paint (22-16), and points off turnovers (14-13), but struggles from deep, getting rebounds, and getting to the free throw line spelled the loss for Life U. The Running Eagles only hit on 2-for-13 shooting from behind the arc, while Coastal Georgia scored 10-for-29. Life U also fell behind in boards, getting out rebounded 41-29. Despite shooting relatively well from the charity stripe, the Running Eagles did not get as many opportunities, hitting on 12-for-16, while Coastal Georgia got 16-for-25.
The women stay on the road for their next couple of weeks, playing an exhibition at Georgia State this Sunday at 2 PM, before hitting the road for a countable contest against Fisk University Tuesday, November 16th at 6 PM.
