MCKENZIE, Tenn. ---- The Life University women's basketball team failed to score 50 points in consecutive games for the first time this season as the Running Eagles dropped their fourth consecutive Mid-South Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in a 62-36 loss to Bethel.
The Running Eagles finished the first quarter ahead 15-14, however the Wildcats came out in the second quarter on a 13-0 run to lead 27-15. Bethel would not trail again for the remainder of the game as Life U made just five baskets in the second half and a season-low five points in the fourth quarter. Bethel scored 25 in the second, 13 in the third and 10 in the fourth to earn the win.
Life U started the game shooting 46.67%, however shot 27% in the second quarter and just 10% in the fourth for a 15-48, 31.3%, average. The Running Eagles made a three-point shot in each quarter, and were 2-8 from the charity stripe. They totaled six points in the paint and tallied 27 rebounds with 16 turnovers and a pair of steals.
The Wildcats had their own struggles offensively, shooting 24-64, 37.5%, in the game. Bethel finished 9-33 from behind the arc (27.3%) and were 5-5 from the free-throw line. The Wildcats picked up 20 bench points and 18 points in the paint with 16 points off turnovers. They added 31 rebounds with 11 steals and three blocks on just five turnovers.Â
Individually for the Running Eagles,
Lenise Santiago was the only player to finish in double figures with 10 on three three-pointers and a free-throw.
Rachel Wilson added nine points as
Sienna Bailey picked up a team-high eight rebounds.
The women's basketball team will take a break for the holidays and return to action at home on December 30 at 5:30 PM as they host Truett McConnell University.Â
