Men's Basketball Unable to Bridge Gap, Loses to Cumberlands in MSC Play 82-72

MARIETTA, Ga. --- Cam Horton scored a season high 22 points, but the Life University men's basketball team could not keep up with University of the Cumberlands at home, losing in Mid-South Conference play, 82-72.

Life U (3-4, 0-4 MSC) fought back-and-forth with the visiting Patriots (8-3, 2-2 MSC), taking four different leads and tying the game twice over the course of the contest, but could not close the deal in the loss. The team came out quick, taking its largest lead at seven points with 16:37 to go in the half after a pair of threes from Horton and Kyonze Chavis and a Nathan Presnell layup. The Running Eagles held the lead a large portion of the first half, losing the lead for the rest of the period with 8:19 till the half. A Patriots' run saw the visitors take a 40-33 lead into the half.

After falling into a double digit deficit, tying the game 43-43 after a Horton layup with 15:14 to play. The Running Eagles last lead of the game came shortly after, Hernandez splashing in a deep shot, 48-45. Life U tied the game again at 51-51 on a Chavis deep ball, but from that point Cumberlands slowly pulled away to take the 82-72 win.

Horton put together his best performance of the year in the loss, finding success from deep and in the paint. The super senior shot 7-for-15 on the day with a solid 3-for-9 from behind the arc to help keep his team in the competition. Coming off the bench, Tylan Green scored 10 in only 13 minutes of play.

Both team's shot rather well on the night, Life U trailing slightly at 27-for-61 (44.3%) to Cumberlands' 28-for-57 (49.1%), and from three range 10-for-27 (37%) to 8-for-21 (38.1%). The main difference between the teams came on the their trips to the charity stripe, the Patriots making 10 more free throws than Life U (18-8). Life U also trailed on the glass, only collecting 30 rebounds to Cumberlands' 38.

The Running Eagles return to action Wednesday, December 8th at 8 PM traveling to Bryan College for a night out of conference game.
