Men's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker, 74-67, Against Martin Methodist

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team dropped a game in a heartbreaking conference loss, 74-67, against Martin Methodist Monday night in the Eagles' Nest.
 
NOTES
• Life U falls to 7-8 (3-8) on the year following the heartbreaking loss, while Martin Methodist improves to 12-7 (8-7).
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS 
• Two Running Eagle players broke into double-digit scoring with both of them, James Moore and Jordan Hernandez, posting 13 points each. Moore grabbed eight rebounds to go with his points, while Hernandez made a game-high three deep shots.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Life U did not make its first shot until the 15:16 mark of the first half, coming off the hands of Derrick Cook as both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net early on in the game. Shortly after subbing into the game, Danny Lewis tied the game 10-10, making a nice mid-range jumper over the hands of the extending Redhawk defender.
• Just outside of the 10-minute mark of the opening half, Cam Horton provided the team's first lead 14-13 with a tough shot down low. After losing the lead back to Martin Methodist, Hernandez splashed in a deep ball to take the lead back 21-20 with 7:13 left in the period. From that point the Running Eagles started to take over as the Redhawk's turnovers (13 in the first half) kept mounting. Hernandez connected on another shot from three land with less than a minute till the break as the lead spread to 33-24.
• Life U found tons of energy early in the second half, Nathan Presnell rocked in a fast break dunk to push the lead to 40-31 and Moore slammed in dunks on back-to-back possessions from even with the rim as all the momentum was on the Running Eagle's side with a 46-33 lead.
• After taking a 50-38 advantage, Life U lost the momentum and a long scoreless stretch put the lead in jeopardy. The team's exchanged the lead from 7:23 to 2:12 where a deep ball gave Martin Methodist a lead they would not relinquish, winning 74-67.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished 25-for-67 from the field, 37.3%, while Martin Methodist shot 24-for-50, 48.0%.
• Life U shot 7-for-26, 26.9%, from beyond the arc and 10-for-14, 71.4%, from the free-throw line. The Redhawks finished 9-for-24, 37.5%, from distance and 17-for-24, 70.8%, from the free-throw line.
• Life U led Martin Methodist in points in the paint 36-26, but trailed 14-11 in points off turnovers.

• The men's basketball team turns to Freed-Hardeman for its next contest for a midweek contest, Thursday, February 4 at 8 PM in the Eagles' Nest.
