MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's basketball team pulled away late to secure a 66-57 victory over conference rival Campbellsville University tonight in the Eagles' Nest.
NOTES
• Life U improved to 9-9 (5-9) on the year with the win, while Campbellsville dropped to 9-14 (7-13).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
James Moore led the way for the Running Eagles, putting together a 17 point, 10 rebound double-double.
•
Cam Horton posted the second most points for Life U, scoring 16 to go along with his six boards, four assists, and one steal.
Jordan Hernandez was the last Life U baller to break into double-digit scoring with 14 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Moore scored the first two shots of the game as the Running Eagles took a 6-0 lead at the 17:58 mark. Life U connected on four-straight three pointers from 16:02 to 11:45, Hernandez knocking down three while
Lorenzo Ferrell chipped in one as the lead stood at 21-11. The Tigers pulled to within four points, but
Derrick Cook ended a cold-streak with a basket in the paint for the 31-25 lead. The team's went into the break, Life U leading 33-25.
• Life U got off to a quick start in the second half, Horton and
Nathan Presnell connecting on shots from behind the arc in the first two minutes as the lead expanded to 39-27. At 13:10, Moore missed on a shot in the paint, but he collected his own miss and put it back up and in for the 45-37 lead. An 8-0 run by the Tigers saw the game tied with 9:57 left to play, but Hernandez splashed in a deep ball to end the scoring drought as the team took the lead they would not relinquish. The lead jumped back up to eight at 58-50 with 2:48 remaining in play after Horton rocked home a deep ball. Moore and Presnell helped end the game on an emphatic note, Presnell tossing a ball off the backboard on a fast break that Moore caught and slammed down for the 64-53 lead with 20 seconds left in play.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U shot well from the field, hitting 24-for-59 (40.7%), but the Tigers edged out a slight lead in the statistic with a 23-for-55 (41.8%) mark.
• Life U shot lights out from deep, connecting on 10 of their 18 shots (55.6%), while Campbellsville struggled on high volume shooting 5-for-30 (16.7%). Neither team had a particularly good day from the charity stripe, Life U going 8-for-17 (47.1%), while the Tigers went 6-for-11 (54.5%)
• Life U enjoyed a 44-33 lead in rebounds, and the teams were even at 11 turnovers each.
