PULASKI, Tenn. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team fell Monday night on the road to Martin Methodist in five sets in the second Mid-South Conference matchup of the season.
NOTES
• Life U fell to 14-3 (1-1) on the year.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Lena Pucnik led the Running Eagles offensively and tallied a double-double with 14 kills and ten digs.
• Fayola Louis also finished in double figures with 11 kills.
•
Kennedy Neal tallied her second consecutive double-double with 29 assists and 13 digs.
•
Marin Black added 13 digs in the match as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U trailed 9-8 early in set one, but a 6-2 run ended with a block by Zimmerman and K. Neal to give the Running Eagles the 14-11 advantage. Life U maintained the lead throughout the set, and a block from Furness and Louis gave Life U the first set 25-19.
• Martin Methodist came out firing in set two as the Redhawks led 15-3 late in the set. Martin Methodist held on to win the second set 25-12.
• Martin Methodist again led early in the third set 12-9, but a 5-1 run was finished with the kill from Louis to give Life U the 14-13 advantage. The Redhawks answered immediately with a 10-3 run to lead 23-17. Martin Methodist capitalized on the errors from Life U to take the third set 25-19.
• Trailing 10-9 in the fourth set, Life U found its answer with a 5-1 run to lead by three, 14-11. Martin Methodist quickly tied the set, as the two teams exchanged the lead back and forth. Kills from Zimmerman and Neal proved to be the breaking point for Martin Methodist as Life U forced a fifth set with the 25-21 win.
• Life U jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the fifth set, however Martin Methodist responded with a 10-2 run to take a commanding 10-4 lead. Life U was unable to overcome the errors again in the fifth set as Martin Methodist earned the 15-8 match win over Life U.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U trailed Martin Methodist in kills 48-46. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .066 as Martin Methodist finished with a .169.
• Life U led Martin Methodist 36-35 in assists but trailed 58-57 in digs.
• Martin Methodist edged Life U in blocks 14-8 and led in aces 9-2.

• The women's volleyball team will return to action on Thursday, February 25, when they travel to Henderson, Tenn. and continue Mid-South Conference play against Freed-Hardeman University at 8 PM.
